The Santa Clara County Planning Office, responsible for the short and long-term planning of the built and natural environments within its locality, will launch a new Web site with GIS capabilities later this summer. As a result, Santa Clara is one of only a few counties in California that will offer dynamically generated maps accessible through a Web interface. The GIS solution gives builders and land owners the ability to generate maps of their properties online. Each dynamically generated map is complete with various planning related information. This allows property owners, contractors and builders, the ability to view zoning restrictions for a particular parcel of land. What used to take weeks through a lengthy paper-based system can now be done in minutes. Along with the integration of the GIS mapping functionality, lead by Farallon Geographics, Santa Clara contracted with Marker Seven, a leading San Francisco based Web design and development company, to redesign their Web site. With the launch of its new site, the Santa Clara Planning Office vastly improved its online presence. Today, the Web site offers visitors an intuitive, easy-to-use site that successfully functions as a source of general county planning and GIS information.
