Case Study: SF School Alliance
The San Francisco School Alliance (SFSA) asked Marker Seven to create a website for its Maisin Scholar Award program, which provides support for economically disadvantaged students. The SFSA needed hosting services, an easy-to-use content management system, and a way to manage its contacts. In addition, the site needed to serve as a bulletin board for scholarship news and events.
The Maisin Scholar Award program serves hundreds of recipients each year. In order for the program to run efficiently, students need easy access to information, and staff need to make changes and updates efficiently.
Marker Seven started at the beginning, with a scholarship application form that students could download easily. So students could manage their contact information and apply for renewals efficiently, Marker Seven created a secure extranet where students could log in and update their information.
On the back end, Marker Seven designed a content management system that would allow staff to manage files and contact students — all without HTML expertise. Marker Seven designed the system to grow with the organization, so it could meet the SFSA's future needs as well.
While reflecting the SFSA's dedication to ongoing education, the site's design is clean, functional and fun. Streamlined graphics and easy access to applications and information make the site efficient and professional. Through the top-level navigation, students can discover extensive information about the program and resources dedicated to supporting their futures.
The goal of the Maisin Scholars program is to help students reach their dreams through ongoing educational opportunities, and the new Maisin Scholars website helps support that effort. After the launch of the Web site, the efficiency of managing the vast amount of information increased dramatically. The new site was also credited with helping to increase the number of students who applied for the award. But the true impact of the site is measured by more than an increase in site traffic; it truly opens the door to opportunity for hundreds of San Francisco students each year.
An independent non-profit organization, the San Francisco School Alliance (SFSA) builds partnerships, raises money, and advocates for policies to ensure that every public school student in the San Francisco Unified School District receives a world-class education. Offered by the SFSA, the Maisin Scholar Award offers support to students who clearly demonstrate their commitment to their education and have articulated their pathway to realize their dreams. www.maisinscholars.org
