Case Study: Adobe
Adobe Systems builds award-winning software solutions for Network Publishing, including Web, print, video, wireless and broadband applications. Its graphic design, imaging, dynamic media, and authoring tools enable customers to create, publish, and deliver visually rich content for various types of media. Though known best for their high-end design tools for professionals, Adobe wanted to reach out to the masses. One of the focuses of the ActiveShare site was to introduce those who were new to digital imaging to Adobe's rich set of applications, within the context of an open, non-intimidating experience.
Innovative functionality and elegant user interface design have always been the hallmark of Adobe Systems’ web and print publishing software. These characteristics are also evident in new products such as Adobe ActiveShare - software for consumers who want a fast, easy way to organize digital photos and share them online with others. Prior to ActiveShare’s launch, Adobe recognized the importance of building a companion Web site that would not only promote the product but also educate the community of ActiveShare users. However, the company’s highly skilled engineering and design staff needed to remain focused on core product development. That’s when Adobe approached Marker Seven team members to create ActiveShare.com.
Throughout all phases of the project, Marker Seven team members worked closely with Adobe’s product team to capture the fun and functional character of the ActiveShare product in a Web site that appeals to an international audience of amateur photographers. Together, ActiveShare and ActiveShare.com guide consumers as they capture, edit, organize and store digital photographs, and then share the results with Web-based “circles” of family and friends.
ActiveShare.com also provides product support, photo gift creation ideas, and tips on how to get the most from digital imaging. Such strong linkage between the product and its companion Web site would be impossible without a highly cohesive, cross-functional team of representatives from both organizations. In essence, the two teams behaved as one. Adobe designers and engineers contributed an understanding of user interface design and a clear vision of the project goals, while our staff provided the deep Web expertise and technical know-how needed to build the kind of dynamic, interactive site Adobe envisioned.
This collaborative effort paid off. Since its debut, ActiveShare.com has been a very popular Web destination. In fact, within only one week of offering product downloads, the site prompted more than 15,000 visitors to download ActiveShare software. And the momentum continued after the launch of the ActiveShare site as Adobe and Marker Seven team members further enriched the site with new capabilities, such as an educational section called Digital Imaging Guide.
